THE NAZI UFO ENIGMA

Over the years, there have been fragments of information concerning a ‘great secret’ which was allegedly in the possession of Nazi Germany during and prior to the Second World War.

This so called ‘great secret’ related to a crashed UFO discovered in the Black Forest during 1936. The rumours implied that this machine was back-engineered to the extent that, when combined with information channelled by an occult group known as the Vril Society, it was capable of flight .

These rumours have been consistent and widespread, which leads to the conclusion that there may be an element of truth in them.


In order to explain the UFO theory, it is first necessary to know a little of specific occult beliefs prevalent in Europe, especially Germany, in the early part of this century.

THE SOCIETIES


During the 1920-30's, German researchers who were exploring ancient Nordic writings became believers in the lost continent of Thule, and the race of Supermen who had existed then during a glorious Golden Age.

They were convinced that the Supermen were genetically and culturally the most advanced race in world history, and convinced Hitler and his Inner Circle
that the Nazis' Aryan Race descended from the Thule Supermen.


In the late 1800’s, early 1900’s, there were a variety of secret/occult societies in Germany, the main ones being, The Bavarian Illuminati, The Freemasons, The Rosicrucians, The Thule Society and The Vril Society. Each of these five societies, although based in secrecy and mysticism, had its role and function. Of these five, two were especially noted for their occult connections, The Vril Society and its purely German offshoot The Thule Society. The chief architect of the Thule Society was Baron Rudolf von Sebottendorff, sometimes referred to as Rudolf Glauer. Sebottendorff / Glauer possessed a wide knowledge of Islamic Mysticism in all its aspects, encompassing the Dervish sects and particularly the cult of Sufism which differs markedly from mainstream Islamic teaching.

THULE

The name, Thule, refers to the capital of the legendary polar country Hyperborea. Also referred to as ‘Ultima Thule’, it was supposedly the gateway to another world. Thule was therefore recognised as a place where humans could, by whatever means, ‘leave the earth’, it also reputedly stood at the portal of the ‘Hollow Earth’. Interestingly, the major players in the 20th century, the USA and the Russian Federation have ELF - extras low frequency - transmitters sited in this area. These transmitters are supposedly used to communicate with submerged submarines, but worryingly, they broadcast these messages at brain-wave frequencies, around 18 to 20Hz.

Traditionally, the Hyperboreans were in contact with extraterrestrials or ‘alien cultures’, in some versions of this, there was interbreeding. In common with the legendary inhabitants of Atlantis, they engaged in war with neighbouring civilisations. This escalated into the use of atomic weapons, resulting in a pyrrhic victory for the Hyperboreans, who, as well as defeating their enemies, virtually destroyed themselves in the process. In common with radiation damage in recent times, the surviving Hyperboreans were soon faced with the prospect of mutated and otherwise damaged offspring. Showing remarkable resolve, those who had not sustained any apparent genetic damage, banded together and effectively removed themselves from the gene pool, a variety of self imposed quarantine. Any ‘damaged’ offspring from this group, were neutered. This early example of eugenics was practised until they were sure that any defective genes had been bred out. The other mutated group eventually died out, whether they were ‘assisted’ in this, is open to debate. This may seem like, and indeed is, a harsh, clinical line to adopt, but being faced with the extinction of their entire race, they had little other option.

The descendants of this seminal ‘Mother race’ were the Celts who, like the ripples on a pond, spread out, colonizing various northern areas of the planet. Scots, Irish, Basques, Spanish, Scandinavians, Icelanders and the Portuguese, all these peoples are of Celtic origin. These disparate nationalities have one common genetic trait, a large percentage of RH-negative blood types, which, according to the beliefs of the
Thule society was a characteristic of the Hyperboreans and their extraterrestrial associates. In recent times, the majority of alien abductees are reportedly from RH negative blood groups, is this a possible indication that UFO cultures are tracking their cross-bred progeny? Other races and peoples who posses a positive blood type were considered to be racially impure, as positive blood is thought to be contaminated by contact with the ape evolved strand of human DNA. 

VRIL

The name ‘Vril’, is, according to which version of the story you hear, either, the Atlantean language, which, atypically, was composed of sounds and clicks, and quite unique, similar in form to the communication used by dolphins. The other explanation is that Vril describes a type of esoteric energy. The Vril society itself was founded in the city of Vienna in 1917 by a group of four people, one of whom, a medium, claimed to be channelling information, which included the ‘Magical, violet, black stone’, and the ‘Sphere of Destiny’, directly from extraterrestrials. The source of this ‘Vril’ power was the ‘Black Sun’, which is described as being ‘an invisible beam of infinite light’. The ‘Black Sun’ itself was a secret school of philosophical thought, thousands of years old and allegedly the foundation on which the occult beliefs of the Nazi Third Reich were founded. Leader of the dreaded SS, Heinrich Himmler was said to be an adept of this ancient doctrine.



HIMMLER, THE SS AND THE OCCULT

Such was the strength of belief in the occult and it’s potential power, that Himmler, a former Roman Catholic, ordered the construction of a spiritual Valhalla deep below his SS fortress at Wewelsburg in Westphalia. He purchased this former ruin in 1934 and had it rebuilt over a number of years at a cost of some 13 million marks. It was dedicated to the cult and belief system of the SS, the Teutonic Knights and other mystical/occult doctrines. Below the castle’s elaborate main banqueting hall he ordered the construction of a ‘Hall of the Dead’, supposedly to house urns containing the ashes and crests of his twelve closest ‘disciples’ when they died.

This consisted of a circular chamber with twelve low stone platforms around its walls. In the centre of the room, in a circular depression accessed by three steps, was a form of altar. This altar or dais was the focal point of the room. Another school of thought is, any attempts to invoke whatever dark, mystical powers lay within the ‘Black Sun’ would be carried out here. Twelve initiates would stand, one on each of the stone platforms against the walls facing the central dais. Each one concentrating, summoning up part of the necessary energy and focusing, channelling the power to the celebrant, the high priest, probably Himmler in person. Certain of these ceremonies required human blood sacrifice, which presented no difficulty; the concentration camps and prisons were full of them. A small group of victims was kept at the fortress for this purpose. There is no positive evidence that any dark powers were actually released during these hellish rituals, but, depending on your religious persuasion and how one views the conduct of the war, perhaps they were. One thing is certain, if they were not, it wasn’t for the lack of trying. The emblem of the ‘Black Sun’ was essentially an elaborate mandalla, like a spoked wheel surrounded by runic symbols. It is, even today, forbidden to belong to this order or even display the insignia in Germany.

 

Many tales of German wartime saucer technologies can be traced to one Erich Halik, Erich Halik, a Swiss engineer and a member of the Vienna circle of Fascists surrounding Wilhelm Landig (1909-1997) and, was the first to link the “Black Sun” roundel insignia with the esoteric SS. Halik regarded the UFOs as something more than mere earthly technology, publishing several UFO articles in Hungarian esoteric magazines. Their take is distinctly esoteric, the UFO being a metaphysical “cultic vessel used by the supreme hierarchy of Christian Gnostics” and now employed by the spiritually superior underground Nazi elite. 


THE WINGWHEELS (FLÜGELRADS)
 

The information channelled by the Vril society eventually culminated in the construction of the ‘Vril Machine’. This was saucer shaped and allegedly an interdimensional time machine, the first piloted flight was reportedly in 1924, after this point, after this things become a little unclear. One school of thought says that a crashed UFO was discovered in the Black Forest in 1936 and back engineered. The resulting discoveries were combined with channelled information possessed by the Vril society and combined into the ‘Haunebu project’. An aircraft historian, Henry Stevens, claims that the ‘Haunebu 1’, the first large - 15 meters in diameter - saucer first took to the skies in 1939, just before the outbreak of the Second World War.

In an alternate version, a scientist, Victor Schauberger, also a Vril Society member, created a number of flying discs between 1938 and 1945 He allegedly worked at Mauthausen concentration camp, using a mixture of technically oriented prisoners and German scientists. In a letter written by Schauberger he gives further information:

"The ‘Flying Saucer’ was flight tested on the 19th of February 1945 near Prague and attained a height of 15.000 metres in 3 minutes and a horizontal speed of 2,200km/ph. It was constructed according to a Mod 11 built at Mauthausen concentration camp in collaboration with the first class engineers and stress-analysts assigned to me. It was only after the end of the war that I came to hear, through one of the workers under my direction, a Czech, that further intensive development was underway. From what I understand, the machine was destroyed on the direct orders of General Keitel. That’s the last I heard of it."

Following the end of the war, Schauberger and his son lived in the USA, where he was reported as working on a top secret UFO project in Texas for the US government. It is interesting to note that many reported UFO pilots are blond, Aryan types who speak German. The so-called Venusian Saucers, which feature in some of the abduction stories, are very similar in appearance to original German saucer designs.

The director of ‘The Hollow Earth Research Society’ claims that "After the war, the allies discovered that more than 2,000 scientists from Germany and Italy, along with almost a million people vanished to the land beyond the pole". According to popular myth, Admiral Richard Byrd is reported to have discovered an anomalous, almost sub-tropical land when he overflew the South Pole in 1947. The actual purpose of this flight was not to conduct - as was reported - a geographical survey, but to search for the people of this exodus and ultimately destroy them. The log of this flight reports that "Flûgelrads - wingwheels,- were sent to the surface to investigate the first nuclear explosions".

Following the flight, Byrd reputedly led an expedition consisting of 100.000 armed troops, an aircraft carrier and a battleship to the South Pole, If he achieved anything, then it has not been publicized, by all accounts a came back a chastened man.

The president of the USA and the military ordered the suppression of this information. Byrd himself, on pain of dearth was ordered to forget it. It seems therefore that this is yet another example of an occult/military/government conspiracy of silence.


CONCLUSIONS

Apart from distaste at certain racist and eugenic overtones espoused by these societies, there are rather more profound doubts about the reported events. The reports reflect attitudes prevalent at the time, attitudes created by the level of technology and almost art-deco approach to visions of future science. This approach is evident in the Fritz Lang’s classic film ‘Metropolis’, where the majority of people are reduced to the level of machines. A virtual underclass of Wellsian ‘Morlocks’ created to serve a ruling elite. On a practical level, there is little actual hard evidence of to support these claims.

Other than alleged witness testimony and blurred photographs depicting flight tests of these UFO’s, all that can be stated with any degree of confidence is: A) the Thule and Vril societies did exist, B) Highly influential members of the Nazi high command were members of and believers in the esoteric teachings these societies, and C) Himmler was noted as a particularly fastidious man who had no stomach for personal contact with the grisly realities of the death and carnage created by his orders and policies. Therefore it is unlikely that he would have personally have been present at the ritual torture of human sacrifices..Finally, D) presumably, Schauberger’s letter referring to the ‘Flying Saucer’ was written after 1947 because the term was not used prior to this. It was not invented until Kenneth Arnold used it to describe the famous multiple UFO sighting at Mt. Rainier in the USA in 1947.

If these ‘Flügelrads’ did exist, why was there no sign of them in the conflict? The story of the Hollow Earth and underground UFO’s has existed for decades with not a shred of proof offered to support its reality. OK, Admiral Byrd flew over the South Pole, but what did he really see? Has there really been a colossal deliberate cover-up? Are satellite photographs faked to prevent the polar opening being discovered? These reports are apocryphal; the evidence is just not there to support them. In many ways, it is similar to belief in God or other divinity. If you believe there is one, then there is and it’s not a point for debate, so it is with the UFO’s of the Third Reich. While the Nazi’s - along with Allies - did have some pretty unusual experimental aircraft, it is unlikely that a device like this ever existed, except perhaps as a project.

 


According to many the occult was somehow intertwined with the Nazis and a group called the Thule Gesellschaft was formed in 1918. Hitler became a junior member of this organization. When he became the Reichsführer he pushed the organizations goals forward. These goals were occult goals. It is said that somehow the Thule Gesellschaft made contact with aliens. By aliens I mean extraterrestrials. There were given plans not only for a saucer but also a time machine. A Dr. W. O. Schumann from München Technical University worked on the time machine for three years.


The saucer was first flown in June, 1937 by a pilot named Lothar Waiz. It was manufactured by the famous plane maker, Arado in
Brandenburg. It was the model RFZ1. It was very hard to control but got into the air but flopped around. The pilot was able to land it but had to run away from it as it jumped all over the ground until it destroyed itself. A second saucer was built in 1934, model RFZ 2 and it had a new control system. Later models were made and they were capable of flying long distances but it lacked manoeuvrability. In 1942 the Vil 1 was built by Jäger and could break the sound barrier and was more manoeuvrable than any plane and was capable of exiting Earth's atmosphere. It had some sort of magnetic drive. The Nazis also tried their hand at building jet powered saucers. Next they built a saucer that had both systems, magnetic and jet. It was the RFZ 7. This was the model that the Nazis wanted to carry their new atomic bomb if they could develop it. There was a RFZ5 also know as the Haunebu I that had a combination magnetic motor and tachyon converter invented by Hans Coler. It had a problem flying at high altitudes.


In 1942 a much larger saucer was created that could carry up to 20 people. It was the Haunebu II. It could fly faster than sound and stay aloft for over 55 hours. A Haunebu III had been constructed that could carry 32 people and stay aloft for 24 hours. Supposedly the Nazis had a small saucer called the Schildkröte that was sent up to interfere with the electrical systems of the allied planes, but it didn't work. It was claimed that one of these saucers actually flew to Mars in 1944.

There is a report that appeared in the German magazine Flugzeug in 1989 in which a German official stated that he saw a saucer in a hangar at an air demonstration at Praha-Kbely aerodrome in Czechoslovakia, now known PragGbell aerodrome, in 1943. He claims it was in the hangar at the C14 Flight School. He said it was a disk that had a diameter of five to six meters and had a large central area. He said it stood slightly lower than the average man and seemed to be made of aluminums. Later on when he was outside he said he and several other people watch as the machine was brought out of the hangar and its engines were started. He stated that the saucer began to rise and rotate. It cruised at a few feet and went along for about 300 meters then had a rough landing. A second flight was made and it flew for the length of the airstrip before landing.


It would seem to me that the Nazis were working on a vehicle that was circular but might have been the prototype for a more efficient jet bomber. Some of the problems I have with the story are:


1. If they have a magnetic engine why would they convert to a jet engine or add a jet engine?
2. If they had interplanetary travel then why didn't they just bomb us from space, we could not have done anything to prevent it?
3. If they were sending up small saucers and to disrupt electronics and they didn't work, then why keep doing it?

 

There are many other reasons that one has to doubt this story, not the least of them the alien contact and the Mars flight. But Iit is a fact that in the 1930s there was a lot of research going on with circular winger aircraft, both in the U.S. and in Germany. It is possible that new types of circular winged aircraft were developed in Germany, which were captured at the end of the war and kept secret.

 


The SS E-IV (Entwicklungsstelle 4), a development unit of the SS occult “Order of the Black Sun” was tasked with researching alternative energies to make the Third Reich independent of scarce fuel oil for war production. Their work included developing alternative energies and fuel sources through coal gasification, research into grain alcohol fuels, more primitive coal burning engines for vehicles and generators, as well as highly advanced liquid oxygen turbines, total reaction turbines, AIP (Air Independent Propulsion) motors and even EMG (Electro-Magnetic-Gravitic) engines.

This group, having helped the occult Thule and Vril Gesellschafts with their continued RFZ (RundFlugZeug, or Round Aircraft) disc prototypes that utilized magnetic levitators developed by Professor W.O. Schumann of the Technical University in Munich, developed by 1939 a revolutionary electro-magnetic-gravitic engine which improved Hans Coler’s free energy machine into a Konverter coupled to a Van De Graaf band generator and Marconi vortex dynamo (a spherical tank of mercury) to create powerful rotating electromagnetic fields that affected gravity. It was designated the Thule Triebwerk (Thrustwork, a.ka. Tachyonator-7 drive).

The very first disc aircraft to use this engine was originally designated by the Thule and Vril Gesellschafts as the RFZ-5. However, since 1935 the occult societies had been scouting for a remote, inconspicuous, underdeveloped testing ground for such a craft. They found a location in Northwest Germany that was known as (or possibly designated as) Hauneburg. Prior to the establishment of this testing ground and facilities the SS E-IV unit simply referred to the new disc as a product- the “H-Gerät” (Hauneburg Device).


For wartime security reasons the name was shortened to Haunebu in 1939. At a much later time in the war as production of these craft was to commence the Hauneburg site was abandoned in favor of the more suitable Arado-Brandenburg aircraft testing grounds.

The  name of the "UFO" - HAUNEBU has likely been passed on in this misleading form in error,  it probably read completely 
  HAUNEBURG. 



In the spring 1935, the Vril  firm "Antriebstechnische Werkstätten"  (Technical Propulsion Workshops)" was looking for a cheap, inconspicuous trial area.  They found it in a not well known place in the Haunetal, North-west Germany

Probably there was at that time a place named "Hauneburg".  Perhaps the area around the remainders of a castle’s ruins, a farm, that was so designated, possibly also in the mean time of a village. 

At that location apparently ”UFO” - developments operated, which were named after the place HAUNEBURG. 

The firm did not work there long.  Soon it had the opportunity to lease a much more suitable area from of the airplane factory Arado in Brandenburg.  This area was used till the end of the war. 

The Hauneburg - plans were on papers, stamped with inscription tables with boxes for labels, as is still sometimes customary also nowadays.  Because these inscription boxes were not very large, the name HAUNEBURG did not fully fit in, so that the abbreviation "Haunebu” emerged.  In such a manner the unusual name Haunebu might have come into being.

Arado busied itself at that time already with drafts for Delta “Nurflügelflugzeuge” (wing only  airplanes).Obviously  Arado had sold the Haunebu(rg) plans. Later the trail of the "Haunebu" devices leads to Wiener Neustadt und Augsburg.

It may be noted that the name  "Flugscheiben" (flying discs) in all likelyhood is an invention out of the postwar period.  Until 1945 they were called "Rundflugzeuge" (round airplanes) and "Flugkreisel"  (flying tops).


This may offer the possibility to distinguish real from fake. 


.......an interesting thing is the name Haunebu, found on the (fake?) technical drawings. Haunebu or Hnbw is in Egypt hieroglyphics the word for "Solar Barque"! This name appear for example in the Sun-Hymn about Ra fighting against his enemies in his Hnbw. There are also "things that Ra uses" (Hnbw) mentioned and beings in the sky (Hnbj). The people from the North are called Haunebut (Hnbwt).

e Akademie der Wissenschaften,  previously known as Preussische Akademie der Wissenschaften:  http://aaew.bbaw.de:88/dza/ .  As this Academy was also very active in Egypt Research in the beginning of the century, this could be the source of "Haunebu".

The early Haunebu I craft of which two prototypes were constructed were 25 meters in diameter, had a crew of eight and could achieve the incredible initial velocity of 4,800 km/h, but at low altitude. Further enhancement enabled the machine to reach 17,000 km/h! Flight endurance was 18 hours. To resist the incredible temperatures of these velocities a special armor called Victalen was pioneered by SS metallurgists specifically for both the Haunebu and Vril series of disc craft. The Haunebu I had a double hull of Victalen. The early models also attempted to test out a rather large experimental gun installation- the twin 60mm KSK (KraftStrahlKanone, Strong Jet Cannon) which operated off the Triebwerk for power. It was claimed to be able to pierce up to four inches of armor! The heavy gun installation, however, badly destabilized the disc and in subsequent Haunebu models lighter MG and MK cannon were supposedly installed (although it is not apparent from any photographic source, being an internal installation of six MK-108s in an upper and lower triple gun pack). The Haunebu I first flew in 1939 and both prototypes made 52 test flights.

In 1942, the enlarged Haunebu II
of 26 meters diameter was ready for flight testing. This disc had a crew of nine and could also achieve supersonic flight of between 6,000-21,000 km/h with a flight endurance of 55 hours. Both it and the further developed 32 metere diameter Do-Stra had heat shielding of two hulls of Victalen. Seven of these craft were constructed and tested between 1943-44. The craft made 106 test flights.

By 1944, the perfected war model, the Haunebu II Do-Stra (Dornier STRAtosphären Flugzeug) was tested. Two prototypes were built. These massive machines, several stories tall, were crewed by 20 men. They were also capable of supersonic speed beyond 21,000 km/h. The SS had intended to produce the machines with tenders for both Junkers and Dornier but in March 1945 Dornier was chosen. The close of the war, however, prevented Dornier from building any craft at all. Several photos of the Haunebu II Do-Stra report that name but this is internal SS E-IV documentation. It is not clear if Dornier was even aware that they had been chosen to produce the craft; hence, no Dornier official documentation exists.


Yet larger still was the 71 meter diameter Haunebu III. A lone prototype was constructed before the close of the war. It was crewed by 32 and could achieve speeds of between 7,000- 40,000 km/h! It had a triple Victalen hull. It is said to have had a flight endurance of between 7-8 weeks! The craft made 19 test flights. This craft was to be used for evacuation work for Thule and Vril in March 1945.

Subsequent postwar claims that this craft was ultimately used for a suicide mission to Mars is completely unfounded; even with onboard SS oxygen generators and modified Drãger Werk pressure suits there is no way this machine could withstand an eight month journey to Mars. What would be the purpose anyway?

Further plans for a 120 meter diameter Haunebu IV
were in the works but no such craft is known to have been constructed before the end of the war. However, many Haunebu craft were spotted over occupied Germany in the years to follow - among them, a craft strongly resembling the Haunebu IV by the Bundeswehr in the 1970s.

It is believed that all of the mysterious Haunebu craft were evacuated to a sanctuary outside of Third Reich borders; to Neu Schwabenland, Antarctica - Base 211, constructed during the war.

In the years following the close of WW2, many Haunebu-shaped disc craft have been spotted all over the world leading to speculation that either the Third Reich survived in another part of the world (primarily in Argentina) or that the victorious Allies had captured the Thule and Vril technology and constructed similar craft. The BRD (Federal Republic of Germany) is also suspected of retaining Thule and Vril technology with official designations of FU-1 and FU-2 (Fliegende Untertassen 1 & 2)

 

 

When Adolf Hitler (a Thule member along with Göring, Himmler, and various other top Nazi officials) became chancellor of Germany in 1933 the eleven year occult metaphysical science of Thule-Vril became strengthened by official state backing for the continued disc development programs starting with an RFZ (RundFlugZeug), or "Round Aircraft" series of discs that utilized levitators developed by W.O. Schumann of the Technical University of Munich who worked on the mysterious JFM from 1922-24.

 

1937 saw the first RFZ discs built, RFZ units 1-3. The first RFZ series utilized the Schumann levitators, but often with disastrous results.

 

The very first disc, RFZ-1 rose very briefly only to 60 meters before losing control. Pilot Lothar Waiz, testing the machine at Arado-Brandenburg, quickly bailed from the spinning disc whose Ar 196 controls and tail unit failed to function causing the machine to spin out of control and crash into the ground. Not to be discouraged the RFZ-2 was built the same year and achieved a measure of success. This was a small armed disc with two MG that was used in 1940 for recon over the British Isles and in the South Atlantic with a rendezvous with the German raider Atlantis in 1942.

 

The RFZ 3,4, and 6 were all prototypes that grew larger and more powerful in each subsequent model. They were built from 1934-1940. The RFZ-5 was renamed Haunebu in 1939 with the RFZ-7 becoming the Vril-1 Jäger in 1941. These highly advanced disc aircraft were overseen by Himmler's SS - specifically, the SS Technical Branch Unit E-IV (Entwicklungsstelle 4) which was created to explore various alternative energies. This unit was tasked with developing both the Haunebu and Vril disc designs that utilized the world's first electro-magnetic-gravitic drive systems: the Vril and Thule Triebwerks.

 

These drives relied on Hans Coler's free energy Konverter coupled to a Van De Graaf band generator and Marconi vortex dynamo (a huge spherical tank of mercury) to create powerful rotating electromagnetic fields that affected gravity. Many have often inquired "why" then when war started in 1939 did Germany not use these advanced and unique machines in air combat? The simple truth lies in the fact that these machines, despite their superior overall performance to conventional piston-engined aircraft and early jets, could not be realistically adapted to any useful military role other than the most basic transport and recon work.

 

The strong electromagnetic engines were difficult to control and required a complex celestial navigation system to fly. While maximum speed and range were incredible for the time, the flight characteristics of the discs could not hope to imitate high-performance fighters like the Me Bf 109 or Fw 190. There was very little room for either offensive or defensive armament in these designs except for a few experimental light MG and MK cannons that proved impractical in flight and a rather large experimental Donar (Thunder) Kraftstrahlkanone (Strong Jet Cannon).

 

These guns tended to destabilize the discs badly and were eventually removed or replaced with lighter automated guns. The disc bodies themselves were not capable of carrying any ordnance at all internally or externally (no bombs, rockets, or missiles) and could make only turns of 22.5, 45, and 90 degrees.

 

Nevertheless, the SS pursued an aggressive policy of theft, forced cooperation, and strong internal development of these types of machines due to the increasing Allied bombing offensive that made conventional aircraft take-offs and landings highly dangerous. VTOL was seen as the logical solution to this problem. If the SS could develop a production machine that in the future could be armed (with cannon, missiles, or even an electrostatic weapon) then Germany might be able to turn the air war.

 

To shorten the time of finding VTOL solutions, the SS robbed both Germany's patent office and every patent office in occupied Europe.

 

Those with aeronautical skill enough to contribute to the SS effort were either arrested or coerced into participating in the programs- among them Viktor Schauberger of Austria and Henri Coanda of Rumania. The SS also used its large slave labor force to assist in construction of large underground facilities for these discs and often for production of components to these machines.

 

Though the SS requested additional slave laborers from Armaments Minister Albert Speer, Speer himself was not told what war projects the laborers would be used for; indeed, Speer was deliberately kept out of the entire SS disc development programs for security reasons and the fact that the SS was a state-within-a-state with its own production facilities, war material, scientists and technicians, slave workforce, and the knowledge of secret Third Reich military bases outside Germany where the discs were both tested and stored.

 

Among those held, Viktor Schauberger became the leader of most interest due to his highly unconventional use of liquid vortex technology which was perfected while he was in custody at Mauthausen. Originally designed for an odd bio-submarine, the strange Repulsin discoid motors were to be adapted to aircraft.

 

Heinkel was the first to receive the early results of the discoid motor tests but refused to act on it in the same way the Luftwaffe refused to act on Heinkel's flight of its first jet aircraft, the He 178, three days before the start of WW2.

 

A year after the Repulsin Model A motor was being studied one of Heinkel's own engineers named Rudolf Schriever proposed his own "Flugkreisel" (Flying Gyro) that utilized conventional jet engines instead of the Repulsin discoid motor. His design was taken from him by the SS and handed over to a team of scientists for further study and construction of a large flying prototype, The team consisted of Dr. Richard Miethe, Klaus Habermohl, and Dr.Giuseppe Belluzzo who had come up with his own design for a jet powered round flying bomb- the Turboproietti.

 

Meanwhile, BMW (who was to provide the turbojets for Heinkel's jets) started work on a design very similar to Schriever's Flugkreisel but utilizing the company's own BMW 003 jet engines. These machines, called "Flügelrads" (Winged Wheels) were not true disc aircraft but jet autogyros that used a standard BMW 003 with a Strahlrohr (Jet pipe) deflector to power a multi-blade disc rotor.

 

These craft were built on a much smaller scale than Schriever's Flugkreisel so work proceeded from 1941-45 with construction of prototypes beginning in 1943. Instability, however, was never really solved in the earlier designs. Only one disc, a BMW Flügelrad II V-2 (or V-3) possibly achieved flight in April 1945. Schriever's own design began to take shape in 1942 and flew in 1943. It flew under jet power provided by three attached special kerosene-burning engines driving the disc rotor as well as two kerosene jets attached to the body for forward thrust and horizontal stability.


Flight characteristics were said to be good but then the SS decided to abruptly drop Schriever's jet-fan design in favor of Miethe's version that eliminated the large disc rotor blades driven by jet engines for Schauberger's liquid vortex engine, but on a larger scale. With Schauberger released back to Austria in 1944 by the SS, the Miethe prototype took to the air the same year over the Baltic. It's resemblance to the Repulsin Model B was unmistakable except for the addition of a bubble cockpit on top and water drainage (bleed) pipes to the rear of the craft instead of at the bottom.


To understand why the Germans didn't use rocket/jet/saucer technology to win the war we must first understand the nature of Hitler's plans for transforming Germany into a world power.

 

Most nations will examine their own past and copy those successful policies in their past to achieve a success outcome of their contemporary foreign policies.

 

This was true of Hitler and the Third Reich.  Hitler looked to the policies Bismarck used to unite Germany under Prussian leadership and transform Germany into a major European power in the 19th century.

 

Bismarck achieved his goals by a series of short, localized, little wars against Denmark (1864), Austria (1866) and France (1870-71).  Hitler also hoped to transform Germany into a world power through a series of short, localized, little wars, against Czechoslovakia in 1938, Poland in 1939 and against the Soviet Union some time between 1941 to 1943.  But things didn't exactly turn out the way he hoped they would.

 

Hitler was able to dismember Czechoslovakia through peaceful means, though he would have preferred a short, localized war.  He did not believe that Britain and France would come to the Czechs' defence any more than they were willing to stop Germany from occupying the Rhineland in 1936, and Austria in 1938, or stop Italy from invading Ethiopia in 1935, or intervene in the Spanish civil war in 1936 or stop Japan's invasion of China in 1931 and again in 1937.

 

Hitler hoped to defeat the Czechs and than proceed to his next short, localized, little war against Poland.

 

Hitler believed that the British and the French would never go to war to defend Poland without the aid of the Soviet Union.  That is why he signed the non-aggression pact with the Soviets.  Without the Soviets to aid them, Hitler believed the British and the French would not attack Germany in the west, which they did not.  Germany defeated and partitioned Poland with the Soviets in four weeks.  Hitler hoped the Allies would agree to an armistice.  He actually offered generous peace terms, including an alliance to defend the British Empire in October 1939, and again, after the defeat of the French in June of 1940.  Hitler even began to demobilize his armies after the defeat of France in the summer of 1940.  He never expected the British to continue to resist him by themselves.

 

What does all this have to do with rocket/jet/saucer technology? 

 

The fact is, the Germans were conducting research into rocket/jet/saucer technology throughout the 1930s and even flew the first jets in 1937.  But why didn't they use this technology to win the war?  Because Hitler never planned a WORLD WAR.  Again!  He hoped to achieve his goals through a series of short, localized, little wars.

 

He remembered what happened to Germany in the First World War.  Germany went on a total war footing from the outset of the war.  This created terrible hardships on the civilian population and resulted in a revolution in 1918, resulting in the defeat of Germany.  Hitler hoped to avoid this and never transformed German's industries into a total war footing until mid-way through 1942, after Germany found itself in a world war with the United States, the Soviet Union and the British Empire.  By this time it was late.

 

Hitler never believed he would need rocket/jet/saucer technology.  Germany only began any serious attempt to develop these technologies in 1942.  As a result, Germany was never able to utilize rockets, jets and saucers in any effective way to turn the tide of the war.  The V2/A4 rocket was never manufactured in any great numbers, and those they were able to use were used for strategic purposes (bombing cities) rather than what would have been more effective tactical purposes, (used against Allied armies in the field).

 

The Germany were only able to build a little more than six hundred jets in late 1944 and early 1945, and very few of them were ever able to get off the ground.  This was because German industries were being bombed around the clock by Allied bombers and Germany was being overrun by Allied armies.

 

The simple truth was that the fabled Nazi efficiency was a myth. 

The Nazis never planned a world war and when they were faced with one, they were unable to take the proper steps to transform Germany onto a total war footing until it was to late.  This is the reason why they were never able to develop and use technologies regarding rockets, jets and flying saucers to their benefit.
